Skiing has been a tradition in Woodstock since 1934 when the first ski tow in the United States was rigged up on a slope just outside the village. Suicide Six Ski Area opened in 1937 just over the ridge from that historic site and has been operating ever since.

Suicide Six Ski Area opened in 1937 just over the ridge from that historic site and has been operating ever since. Suicide Six has 23 trails, ranging in difficulty from novice to expert, including Face, which has challenged skiers for over 50 years. For snowboarders, there is a half-pipe. Two double chair lifts serve the area and a j-bar operates at the Beginners' Slope. The base lodge has a cafeteria, a bar/restaurant, a ski shop, and a ski school staffed by certified instructors.
